Collection of forty-one 1911 T201 Mecca Double Folders includes a partial set of thirty-two different cards (out of 50 cards in the set) and nine duplicates. Highlighted by Cobb, Mathewson, and many other Hall of Famers. These cards were part of a very substantial totally untouched collection of 1910-era candy and tobacco cards consigned to this auction (all cards from this collection appear in the Internet-only section of the auction), which was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. We have selected six T201 Mecca Double Folders to be graded and encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). Keys: three Baker/Collins (all Vg), Bender/Oldring (Ex), Bergen/Wheat (Ex), two Bresnahan/Huggins (Vg and Gd), Bridwell/Mathewson (SGC GOOD 30), Byrne/Clarke (Vg), Chance/Evers (SGC EX 60), two Cicotte/Thoney (SGC VG 40 and Gd-Vg), Cobb/Crawford (SGC POOR 10; half inch tear in from the right edge, otherwise Vg-Ex), Dougherty/Lord (Gd), Gardner/Speaker (SGC VG/EX 50), three Jennings/Summers (Vg and two Gd-Vg), Lake/Wallace (Vg), McCarty/McGinnity (SGC VG/EX 50), and Payne/Walsh (Vg-Ex). The balance of the cards in this collection grade as follows: five cards grade Ex, one Vg-Ex, thirteen cards range from Good to Vg (mostly Vg), and one card lesser. These cards are naturally prone to wear and rarely found in extremely high grade. As is usually the case with T201s, cards have been substantially downgraded due to mostly very minor creases and corner wear natural to the issue, and many have a far superior appearance than suggested by their technically accurate grades. T201s are very attractive, substantial, and represent one of the best values of all 1910 era baseball tobacco issues. The equivalent SMR value for the just the six SGC-graded cards (not including the thirty-five ungraded cards) is $1,120. Total 41 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $1,880
