Collection of twenty-six candy cards from the 1910 era consists of cards from six different highly regarded baseball issues, including an E101 Ty Cobb (SGC FAIR 20), and five other Hall of Famers. These cards are part of one of the most substantial original-owner caramel card collections we have ever offered. The entire collection of over 350 1910-era candy cards (plus over 200 tobacco cards) have been consigned to this auction (all appear in the Internet-only section of the auction), and have been saved for decades by the family of the original owner. The cards in this lot range in condition from Poor to Fair (with a few slightly better and a couple trimmed). We have selected three cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC (two E94 Lajoie and E101 Cobb). 1) E90-2 American Caramel (5 cards): Clarke (HOF; three borders trimmed off), Hyatt, Leach, Miller, and Phillippe. 2) E91 American Caramel (2 cards): Hoffman and Plank (HOF). 3) E94 George Close Candy (5 cards): Byrne (three borders trimmed off), Devore, Dougherty, two Lajoie (HOF; SGC GOOD 30 and POOR 10). 4) E97 C. A. Briggs Co. (7 cards): Austin, Carrigan, Durham, two Heinchman, and two Mullin. 5) E101 Anonymous "Set of 50" (7 cards): Bergen, Cobb (HOF, SGC FAIR 20; Of special note, this card is considered by many collectors to be Ty Cobb's rookie card, though a number of other issues can also lay claim to that important distinction. It is, without question, one of Cobb's earliest cards, and is very likely "tied" for the earliest insert card ever issued of "The Georgia Peach." Bright and crisp, with bold colors, and heavily rounded corners. Clean front and back, with several light creases (not affecting Cobb's image), and centered 80/20 left to right.), Collins (HOF), Davis, Knight, Murphy, and Seigle. 6) E102 Anonymous "Set of 25" (1 card): Zimmerman. This is a very neat overall low-grade collection of original caramel cards, from six of the era's most popular and classic sets, with several notable highlights (including E101 Ty Cobb and two E94 Lajoie). Total 26 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,938
