Presented is a simply extraordinary collection of fifteen National Biscuit Company trolley car advertising signs dating to circa 1910. These signs were among the greatest highlights from the archives of the National Biscuit Company sold by REA in 2007, and have been consigned to this auction directly from the gentleman who purchased these at that auction. Each is a museum-quality advertising gem. We cannot imagine finding elsewhere even a few trolley signs of this caliber (though theoretically they must exist somewhere), let alone such an incredible and substantial collection. Each of these signs measures 20.5 x 10.75 inches and is distinguished by its remarkable state of preservation. This entire group originates directly from the company's archives and, as such, each sign displays much as it did when originally issued nearly 100 years ago. Included here are advertisements for many of the company's best-known products such as Oreo Sandwich cookies, Zu Zu Ginger Snaps, Famous Chocolate Wafers, and Uneeda Biscuits, as well as some long-forgotten lesser-known products. Although a number of products are featured more than once, none of the signs is duplicated. Nearly all of the signs display normal fold lines (as issued) and each is in Excellent to Mint condition with the exception of three (very slight creasing and/or light foxing). All have been framed to slightly larger dimensions (the frames display moderate wear, including chips and abrasions). This is an extraordinary turn-of-the-century advertising collection, literally a museum-quality presentation of early American advertising, the likes of which will rarely, if ever, be seen again. All are ideal for display, as intended. Please note: due to the size and/or number of framed items in this collection, the shipping charges for this lot (depending on where it is sent and method of shipping) may be substantial.
