Titled Nolan Ryan , issued in 1982, serigraph numbered "219/300," flawlessly signed in pencil in the lower margin by Nolan Ryan and LeRoy Neiman (both grading "10"). Edition limited in number to 359 total impressions (300 numbered impressions, 50 artist's proofs, and 9 printer's proofs). This piece was issued in commemoration of Nolan Ryan's record fifth no-hitter (Ryan eventually finished his career with a total of seven no-hitters), which occurred on September 26, 1981, at the Astrodome. Ryan, a member of the Houston Astros at the time, blanked the Dodgers 5-0 that day and the Astrodome scoreboard in the background features the line score from the game as well as the announcement "Nolan Ryan is the 1st pitcher in Major League history to throw five career no-hitters!" One of the greatest pitchers of the modern era, Ryan retired in 1993 with 324 career wins and a record 5,386 strikeouts. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1999. Neiman's sports artworks have always been held in high esteem by collectors and this piece is widely recognized as the premier Ryan signed display piece. The serigraph measures 25.5 x 36.125 inches (image area) and displays remnants of mounting tape on the reverse top border; otherwise in Mint condition. Accompanied by a COA from Knoedler Publishing. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,880
