Complete set of thirty-two 1923 Cope Bros. & Co. "Golf Strokes" cards, all graded and encapsulated by PSA. This is currently the second-finest set on the PSA set registry with a GPA of 7.05. This set is considered by many serious golf-card collectors as one of the most difficult sets to complete in high grade. This is an outstanding set, rarely offered in complete-set form in such high grade. In fact, this is the first complete set we have ever seen or handled. Only five different golfers comprise the thirty-two card set. The set features multiple cards of golf legends Harry Vardon, Abe Mitchell, George Duncan, John H. Taylor, and Edward Ray. Each card depicts a black-and-white action shot with a descriptive narrative on the reverse. The set includes one MINT 9, eleven NM-MT 8s, one NM+ 7.5, ten NM 7s, six EX-MT 6s, and three EX 5s. The PSA grades are as follows: One MINT 9: #19 Duncan (this is the only PSA 9 ever given to any card from this issue). Eleven NM-MT 8: #4 Vardon, 8 Vardon, 10, 11, 17, 18, 20, 21, 22 Taylor, 23 Taylor, and 24 Taylor. One NM+ 7.5: #9 Vardon. Ten NM 7: #2 Vardon, 3 Vardon, 5 Vardon, 6 Vardon, 7 Vardon, 12, 13, 15, 16, and 25 Taylor. Six EX-MT 6: #1 Vardon, 14, 26 Taylor, 27 Taylor, 28 Taylor, and 29. Three EX 5: #30, 31, and 32. Many of these cards are the highest (15 cards) or second-highest (9 cards) graded examples in the PSA Population Report. This is a very scarce set in extremely high-grade, and which is rarely seen or offered at auction. Total 32 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $5,288
