Ten-page New York Giants football program, for a November 1, 1942 home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, signed on the cover by thirty-three team members, including four Hall of Famers: Steve Owen, Wellington Mara, Tuffy Leemans, and Mel Hein, who holds the distinction of being not only the first recipient of the NFL MVP Award (known as the Joe F. Carr Trophy from 1938 to 1946), but the only offensive lineman in history to win the award as well. The cover of the program features a photo of Leo Cantor in an action pose and has been signed in black fountain pen by the following thirty-three individuals: Steve Owen, Well Mara, Tuffy Leemans, Mel Hein, Ward Cuff, Leo Canter, Jim Lee Howell, Al Blozis, Kay Bell, Don Lieberum, Duce Keahey, Al Owen, Bill Hutchinson, Merle Hapes, Jiggs Kline, Monk Edwards, Frank Cope, Will Walls, Hank Soar, Red Seick, Charles Avedisian, Ed Hiemstra, Bill Owen, Johnny Lascari, Paul Stenn, Hal Hall, Neal Adams, Emmett Barrett, Dom Principe, Lee Shaffer, Frank Liebel, Harry Buffington, and Bob Trocolor. It should be noted that all of the signatures are vintage examples with the exception of Mara, which was obtained by our consignor shortly before Mara's death in 2005. Each of the signatures grades either "9" or "10," with the exception of Hapes ("6"), Al Owen ("8"), Walls ("8"), and Adams ("8"), all of which are downgraded due to smudging. The program (7 x 10 inches) is in Excellent condition. Rare, exceptionally attractive, and ideal for display. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 12.5 x 15.5 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000.
