Graded VG 40 by SGC. The rare Dockman & Sons caramel issue from 1909 shares designs with several other closely related candy issues (Croft's Candy, Nadja Caramels, etc.) from the same era. The offered example of Hall of Famer Honus Wagner (throwing pose) is a very attractive example, especially for a card in Very Good condition. Bright and crisp, with vibrant colors, evenly rounded corners, a single diagonal crease near the upper left corner (extremely minor, very difficult to see), and very well centered. The reverse has bold black text and a few light spots of toning. Caramel cards in general are much rarer than tobacco cards of the era. Because they were issued with caramels one card per package and sold to children (as opposed to being sold to adults with tobacco), they also tend to survive in a much lower grade. This is a very pleasing Vg example of the legendary Honus Wagner from this rare, early twentieth-century candy issue. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $2,115
