Original Charles Conlon press photo, culled from The Chicago Sun Times archives, capturing Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson as a member of the New York Giants. Mathewson is pictured from the waist up as he poses for the camera at the Polo Grounds. Reverse markings include Conlon's Evening Telegram credit stamp, a "Sep 26 1912" date stamp, and a handwritten credit notice for the "Am. Press Assn." Research indicates that the Giants swept a home double header against the Boston Braves on September 26, 1912, with the two victories clinching the pennant for New York. The photo (6.25 x 5 inches) has a few very minor flaws common to nearly all working press photos, including a large corner chip in the upper left. In Very Good condition. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+.
