Original vintage team photographs in general tend to be few and far between, but it is not surprising that The Detroit News
would have the ultimate collection of team photos of the Detroit Tigers, used for illustration purposes over the years as they covered the team. Presented is a remarkable collection of twenty-two vintage Detroit Tigers press photos culled from The Detroit News
archives, each picturing the club in a traditional team pose, used by the paper in their respective years. These team photos, which span the years 1932 through 1968, are all the more notable for their size. All but five of the photos measure 14 x 11 inches (the others are slightly smaller), and are suitable for framing. The years represented here are 1934, 1935, 1937, 1939, 1940, 1943, 1944, 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1964, and 1968. Each photo has a number of minor flaws common to nearly all working press photos, which may include light-to-moderate creases, small tears and/or corner chips, tape repair, and editorial marks on the front. Many have original published captions or attachments with player identifications on reverse. The photos range in grade from Good to Very Good, display beautifully, and are of superb quality. Total: 22 photos. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+.
