Collection of five vintage press photos, each picturing the Brooklyn Robins in a classic team pose. The 1920 example originates from The Detroit News archives, while the other four were culled from The Chicago Sun Times photo archives. 1) 1913. Twenty-four team members pictured, including Wheat and Stengel. An "Apr-7 1913" date stamp and an "Underwood & Underwood" credit stamp appear on the reverse. Together with its original paper news caption. 10 x 8 inches. 2) 1914. Twenty-four team members pictured, including Robinson, Stengel, and Wheat. Reverse markings consist of an "Apr-6 1914" date stamp, an "American Press Association" credit stamp, and a typed listing of the players pictured. 10 x 8 inches. 3) 1915. Twenty-four team members are pictured, including Robinson, Stengel, Wheat, and Marquard. Reverse markings consist of an "Underwood & Underwood" credit stamp, the handwritten date "Sept 13-1915" and editorial notations. Each player displays a number written upon his image that would have been used as an identifier in print. 10 x 8 inches. 4) 1916. Twenty-four team members of the National League Champion Robins are pictured, including Robinson, Marquard, Wheat, and Stengel. Reverse markings consist of an "Oct-6 1916" date stamp, an "American Press Assn." credit stamp, and a typed listing of the players pictured. 8 x 6 inches. 5) 1920. Twenty-seven members of the National League Champion Robins are pictured, including Robinson, Wheat, and Marquard (Burleigh Grimes is not pictured here). All of the players are identified on the attached paper news caption. Reverse markings consist of a "Keystone View Co. Inc." credit stamp and a date stamp reading "Filed Before June 1919." Despite the year stamp on the reverse, this photo can only date from 1920 based upon the combination of players listed on the attached news caption and the uniform style (worn by Brooklyn only in 1920 and 1921, according to the Baseball Hall of Fame Uniform Database). 8.5 x 6.625 inches. The photos all display minor flaws common to nearly all working press photos, including trimmed borders, creases, and minor surface wrinkles. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Total: 5 photos. Reserve $300. Estimate $500++.
