Alex Rodriguez Louisville Slugger signature-model "P72" bat dating to the 2006 manufacturing period. Graded GU9.5 by PSA/DNA. This bat is accompanied by a wealth of provenance confirming its game-used status. The most conspicuous is that provided by Rodriguez himself, who has inscribed the bat in silver paint pen (grading "10') on the "sweet spot" of the barrel: "Alex Rodriguez/2006 Game Used/.290 Avg - 35 HR - 121 RBI." The most specific is that provided by the MLB Authentication hologram label, bearing the number "BB 024117," affixed to the barrel. According to the MLB website, this bat was used by Rodriguez as a member of the New York Yankees on April 25, 2006, in a game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at Yankee Stadium. Rodriguez went 2-4, with two singles in leading the Yankees to a 9-1 victory on that date. The physical characteristics of the bat certainly corroborate Rodriguez's performance at the plate. The bat displays evidence of heavy use, including numerous ball and stitch marks on the barrel, cleat marks, slight checking (grain separation) from repeated ball contact, Mota stick on the handle, and a circular impression made from a weighted batting "donut." A crack (indeterminate length) in the handle has been expertly repaired. Also accompanying the bat is a letter of authenticity, on MVP Marketing & Management letterhead, signed by Rodriguez. It should be noted that in Rodriguez's letter, the MLB hologram number is incorrectly transcribed as "BB 024111." That error accounts for a subsequent error in the PSA/DNA letter which states that the number "cannot be found in the MLB database." That minor anomaly aside, this is by far one of the most well documented Alex Rodriguez game-used bats we have ever handled. Length: 34 inches. Weight: 32.2 ounces. LOAs from John Taube and Vince Malta of PSA/DNA and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $1,410
