Cal Ripken Jr. Louisville Slugger signature-model "P72" bat dating to the 1991-1997 manufacturing period. Graded GU7 by PSA/DNA. The bat displays heavy use along its entire length, including numerous ball and stitch marks (one of the ball marks features an exceptional blue-ink transfer that clearly reads "Cork Center"), cleat marks, and pine tar on the handle. A crack in the handle (indeterminate length) has been professionally repaired. Ripken has beautifully signed the bat in silver paint pen (grading "10") on the sweet spot. Cal Ripken Jr. was one of the greatest players of the postwar era and his amazing record of playing in 2,632 consecutive games will probably never be broken. Ripken appeared in nineteen consecutive All-Star Games during his twenty-one year career (1983-2001) and is one of only twenty-six players to amass over 3,000 hits in his career. Other notable accomplishments include 431 home runs, a Rookie of the Year Award (1982), two MVP Awards (1983 and 1991), and two Gold Glove Awards (1991 and 1992). He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2007, his first year of eligibility. Length: 35 inches. Weight: 34.5 ounces. Graded GU7 by PSA/DNA. While this is an exemplary Ripken bat in all respects, PSA/DNA, as noted in its accompanying LOA, has slightly downgraded the bat because "A close examination of the repaired handle crack indicates that some pine tar was applied as part of the repair. This detracts from the authenticity somewhat, as the pine tar application cannot be attributed to the player." LOAs from John Taube and Vince Malta of PSA/DNA and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,645
