Extremely rare 1920s-era New York Giants game-used road jersey once owned by famed collector Barry Halper. Graded A6.5 by MEARS. Although Barry Halper's fabled baseball jersey collection was known primarily for its "star" appeal, it also contained a number of desirable "style" jerseys, one of which was this rare treasure. The gray road flannel jersey, which predates uniform numbers, features a blue pinstripe design and is simply lettered "Giants" across the front in blue felt letters. A "Spalding" label is located in the collar. The garment is completely original, with no alterations, and displays moderate-to-heavy wear throughout, including a few tiny tears in the collar. A small 1 x 1.5- inch hole in the left front tail has been repaired by means of a cloth patch (vintage team repair). Unfortunately the jersey displays no player identification, but is extremely desirable as a style example. 1920s flannel jerseys are very rare and highly prized by collectors. As a point of reference with regard to its extreme rarity, it should be noted that only twenty other jerseys/uniforms dating from the 1920s are currently even listed in the MEARS census. Graded A6.5 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with 3 points deducted for lack of positive player identification and a half point deducted for the team-repair). LOA from Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000+. SOLD FOR $3,819
