Substantial sixteen-page large-format program issued for a 1924 World Series game between the Giants and Senators at the Polo Grounds. The cover features large portrait images of each club's respective manager, John McGraw and Bucky Harris, while the interior pages include photos of league and team officials, as well as portraits of twenty-four members of both the Giants and Senators. Published by Harry M. Stevens. This program has been neatly scored in black ink for Game 5 of the series and records a 6-2 Giants victory. The preprinted lineups include Frisch, Kelly, Youngs, and Lindstrom for New York, and Johnson, Harris, Rice, and Goslin for Washington. The Senators defeated the Giants in an exciting seven-game Series in 1924. The final game hung in the balance for twelve innings before a two-out ground ball off the bat of Early McNeely took a bad hop over the head of third baseman Fred Lindstrom and scored Muddy Ruel from second with the winning run. The game also marked the end of John McGraw's 1920s dynasty, which saw his Giants capture five consecutive pennants and three World Championships between the years 1921 and 1925. All of the 1920s World Series programs in this auction, this one included, are new to the hobby and originate from a noncollector whose grandfather actually attended the games. Each cover is partially separated along the bottom half of the spine, but both are still firmly attached to the body of the program. That unobtrusive flaw aside (which has literally no impact on display value), the program (9.25 x 11 inches) is remarkably crisp and flat (as are all the World Series programs from this special collection) and remains in Excellent condition.
