Striking and very substantial twenty-page Detroit Tigers program for a 1912 regular-season game against the Philadelphia Athletics. This is an extremely rare program! In fact, it is the first of this style we have ever seen. This program captures the spirit of Detroit's well-deserved nickname of "The Motor City." The colorful cover features an advertisement for the "Maxwell" automobile company, while the back cover advertises for the "R-C-H" car company. The interior pages feature additional automobile ads, making this program equally desirable to both car and baseball collectors alike. A full-page interior advertisement for Kodak features a spectacular photo of Ty Cobb sliding into third base. Cobb is also pictured, along with Hughie Jennings and Sam Crawford, in an advertisement for The Studebaker Corporation, with the accompanying text noting that Hughie Jennings, Eddie Plank, and Frank Baker, among others, own Studebaker cars. The complete home and away 1912 schedule for Detroit appears on an interior page. The preprinted lineups include Cobb, Crawford, Jones, and Bush for Detroit, and Baker, Collins, Barry, McInnis, and Strunk for Philadelphia. Partially scored in pencil. The program (6 x 9 inches) displays a minor surface indentation along the top of the front cover; otherwise in Excellent condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $823
