Crystal clear news photo of Hall of Fame second baseman Nap Lajoie striking a batting pose. This photo originates from the Baseball Magazine archives and bears a special hologram label on the reverse from when it was sold at auction in 1996. Period editorial notations, including Lajoie's name written in pencil, also appear on the reverse. Based upon the uniform style shown here, this photo conclusively dates to 1911. Although a sixteen-year veteran, with the added responsibilities of manager on his shoulders, Lajoie was still at the top of his game in 1911, as evidenced by his .365 batting average. He eventually retired after the 1916 season with a .338 lifetime average and 1,599 RBI. The photo (4 x 8 inches), which is mounted to a heavy cardboard backing (which gives the photo a "cabinet card" appearance), displays a few minor surface wrinkles (visible only when viewed at certain angles) and a tiny edge tear which has been ameliorated by the mounting process. In Very Good to Excellent condition, but with a much more stronger Excellent or better appearance. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $294
