Near-complete set of 1980-2001 Perez-Steele Hall of Fame Postcards (269 total, missing only Mike Schmidt), eighty-nine of which have been signed on the front by the respective player. This phenomenal set, which features eighty-nine of the possible 104 Hall of Famer signed cards, is one of the most complete sets we have ever offered with regard to the signatures. Perez-Steele Hall of Fame postcards, which are universally recognized as one of the most classic issues ever produced for autograph collectors, were originally issued in fifteen individual series between 1980 and 2001. With the exception of seven cards (featuring Hall of Fame Officials, Perez-Steele Gallery executives, and other non-ballplayers) only Baseball Hall of Fame members are included in the set. Each card was limited to a print run of 10,000 and every card is individually numbered on the reverse. Of the 270 cards in the set, only 104 could possibly have been signed by Hall of Fame players (the balance of the players passed away prior to the date of publication). In addition to the eighty-nine of the possible 104 Hall of Famer signed cards, three of the seven cards featuring non Hall of Fame players have also been signed (Stack, on two separate cards, and Peggy Steele, Frank Steele, and Dick Perez [all on the same card]). It is important to note that forty of the eighty-nine Hall of Fame signers represented here are now deceased. Organized by series, the following are the ninety Hall of Fame player-signed cards in this set: Second Series: Hubbell, Gehringer; Third Series: Dickey, Terry, DiMaggio, Feller, Roush; Fourth Series: Appling, T. Williams, Musial, Boudreau; Fifth Series: Berra, Gomez, Koufax, Leonard, Wynn, Irvin, Spahn, Bell, Conlan, Ford, Mantle, Herman, J. Johnson; Sixth Series: Kiner, Lemon, Roberts, Banks, Lopez, Sewell, Mathews, Mays, Kaline, Snider, Gibson, Mize; Seventh Series: Aaron, Chandler, F. Robinson, Kell, Marichal, B. Robinson; Eighth Series: Aparicio, Drysdale, Ferrell, Killebrew, Reese, Brock, Slaughter, Wilhelm; Ninth Series: Doerr, McCovey, Dandridge, Hunter, B. Williams; Tenth Series: Stargell, Barlick, Bench, Schoendienst, Yastrzemski; Eleventh Series: Morgan, Palmer, Carew, Jenkins, Perry. Twelfth Series: Fingers, Newhouser, Seaver, R. Jackson, Carlton, Rizzuto; Thirteenth Series: Ashburn, Bunning, Weaver; Fourteenth Series: Lasorda, Niekro, Doby, Lee MacPhail, Sutton, Brett, Cepeda, Ryan, Yount; Fifteenth Series: Anderson, Fisk, Perez, Mazeroski, Puckett, and Winfield. Included in the set, which is mixed numbered (the cards do not all bear the same set number on the reverse), are all seven non Hall of Fame player cards (three of which are signed) and all fifteen checklists. The fifteen Hall of Fame signatures missing for completion are those of Lyons, Cronin, Greenberg, Grimes, Ruffing, T. Jackson, Waner, Campanella, Coveleski, Hoyt, Paige, Kelly, Averill, Schmidt, and Alston. According to the 2009 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards , the value of the ninety signed Hall of Famer cards featured in this set is $4,797. Approximately eighty percent of the signed cards (3.5 x 5.5 inches) are in Near Mint condition, while the other twenty percent range in grade from Excellent to Excellent to Mint due to some minor handling wear along the edges and corners. The unsigned cards are in overall Near Mint condition. The signatures, scripted in blue Sharpie with the exception of Rizzuto (black Sharpie), are all extremely high quality, ranging in grade from "9" to "10." Total: 269 cards (includes eighty-nine signed Hall of Famer cards and three signed non Hall of Famer cards). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $3,000+. SOLD FOR $3,231
