Exceedingly rare bank check signed by Hall of Fame outfielder Hack Wilson. The check, drawn on the Hamilton State Bank, is dated July 14, 1931, and made out to "cash" in the amount of $25.00. Wilson has signed the check "L. R. Wilson" ("9") in black fountain pen along the bottom. A stamped endorsement ("Pay to the order of Hamilton State Bank - George Williams") appears on the reverse. Lewis Robert Wilson, nicknamed "Hack," was one of the top hitters of his era. While many of the top slugging records have been shattered in recent years, Wilson's incredible accomplishment of 190 RBI in 1930 continues to stand the test of time. Hall of Famer signed checks have long been a favorite among collectors due to their inherent authenticity. This example is especially desirable because it dates from his playing career. Among Hall of Famer checks, Hack Wilson checks are particularly rare. This is only the second example that we can recall ever offering. The check (6.25 x 2.75 inches) bears two vertical folds (one heavy, the other quite light) as well as normal bank cancellation stamps and holes (none of which touch upon the signature). In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $3,231
