Rarely are we able to offer a near-complete selection of rare advertising backs from the legendary T206 White Border series, but this auction will feature exactly that. Missing only the three extreme rarities (Brown Lenox, Brown Old Mill, and Cobb/Cobb) as well as the very tough Red Hindu, every other advertising back is represented, several of which appear with near-impossible front/back combinations. There is perhaps no more improbable card offered in this auction than the Broad Leaf 460 Ty Cobb Red Portrait. Only the second-known example, this card was discovered in an old house by an antique collector, who was unaware of its significance. The Red Portrait is well represented, appearing with an extremely rare Lenox back as well as a Piedmont Factory 42, Cycle 350, Sovereign 350, and Polar Bear reverses. A stunning Uzit back is present with Cobb’s bat off shoulder pose as well as on “common” John Hummel, which holds the distinction of being a newly-checklisted card offered for the very first time. A Drum back of Wid Conroy with bat comes to us from an old-time collection and is only the second-known example as well. Countless other impressive Hall of Fame rare backs dot the auction, including an EPDG Johnson Portrait, Hindu Tinker Portrait, and Carolina Brights Mathewson Dark Cap. There’s been incredible interest in the advertising backs for the past several years, and this auction is sure not to disappoint!
