Graded VG 40 by SGC. This is a very attractive mid-grade example of one of Ruth's truly great early 1920s cards. 1921 was the very first year the legendary Exhibit Supply Company of Chicago issued cards. It would go on to issue sets for the next fifty years. These cards were sold by Exhibit card machines at amusement parks and penny arcades, one penny per card. This is the key card from the set and one of Ruth's earliest cards featuring him with the Yankees. The card is bright and crisp, with strong corners (the lower right shows a small bit of wear and the lower left has a corner crease), and a flawless image. Downgraded by SGC due to a light moisture stain visible in the upper right portion of the card (approximately 20% of the area is affected). An extremely attractive mid-grade example of what is universally recognized by collectors as one of Ruth’s most classic cards. Reserve $400. Estimate $1,000+.
