Graded EX 60 by SGC. This is one of only two examples graded at this level by SGC with none higher. High-grade example of this early classic card of Hall of Famer Charles Comiskey issued during his playing days from the popular N284 Buchner Gold Coin series. As first-baseman/manager of the St. Louis Browns of the American Association, Comiskey led the Browns to AA League Championships in 1885, 1886, and 1887. The card displays bold colors, light wear to the corners, and is centered slightly to the top left. A few tobacco stains are visible on the reverse. Buchners are unusual in that they feature generic illustrations of the ballplayers rather than the actual likeness of the identified player. This is an attractive Hall of Famer example, from the Buchner Gold Coin tobacco set, one of the few full-color baseball-card sets of the nineteenth century, and one of the most artistically interesting, distinctive, and classic baseball-card sets of the 1880s. Reserve $300. Estimate 500+.
