This card is part of an exciting, fresh-to-the-hobby find of fifteen N173s, including five Hall of Famers and two Dogs Head cards, discovered by a non-collector in Maine among the possessions of his grandfather, all consigned to this auction. Presented is an extremely attractive 1888 N173 Old Judge cabinet card of St. Louis Browns pitcher C. C. King (pose #263-1). Stunning example, with flawless contrast and tremendous detail. Extraordinarily bold and crisp. Perfectly clean on the front and back. Moderate horizontal crease across the card, more visible from the reverse is responsible for the modest grade. This is an outstanding sample from one of the most revered and substantial of all nineteenth-century baseball-card issues. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000.
