Presented is a magnificent near-complete set (117 different cards) of T202 Hassan Triple Folders, entirely graded and encapsulated by PSA. The beautiful lithography, the great number of stars represented, and the unique design of T202 Hassan Triple Folders combine to make it one of the most highly regarded of all baseball-card sets of the era. Complete or near-complete sets are very rarely offered assembled (or offered in set-form, in part due to the tremendous number of Hall of Famers), let alone in such outstanding condition. Included are three of the five Ty Cobbs, three Christy Mathewsons, two Walter Johnsons, two Tris Speakers, Cy Young, and literally dozens of stars and additional Hall of Famers. PSA is notoriously hard on T202s, due to the "spider creases" which naturally occur along the folds of the side panels, as well as roller marks that are so common to the issue. These natural manufacturing flaws result in particularly harsh grading by PSA. This set consists of one NM 7, twelve EX-MT 6s, two EX+ 5.5s, fifty-nine EX 5s, eight VG-EX+ 4.5s, twenty-two VG-EX 4s, three VG+ 3.5s, nine VG 3s, and one GOOD+ 2.5. T202s are unnumbered, so in the following condition composite, identifying card numbers are referenced from the numbers provided by the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards checklist. PSA Grading Composite: NM 7 (1 card): #31 Bender/Thomas. EX-MT 6 (12 cards): #1 LaPorte/Wallace, 23, 24, 38 Clarke/Byrne, 60 Archer/Evers, 66, 69, 85 Mathewson/Meyers, 108, 119, 120, and 127 Marquard/Meyers. EX+ 5.5 (2 cards): #34 Walsh/Payne and 71. EX 5 (59 cards): #2 Pelty/Wallace, 4, 7, 10 Birmingham/Turner, 12, 14 Bresnahan/Oakes, 15 Harmon/Bresnahan, 16 Chance/Foxen, 17, 19, 20 Shean/Chance, 22 Gibson/Clarke, 27 Gibson/Clarke, 28, 29, 30 Barry/Baker, 33, 40 Collins/Murphy, 41, 46 Fletcher/Mathewson, 47 Devlin/Mathewson, 48, 49, 51, 53, 54, 55, 58, 59 Speaker/Engle, 61 Chance/Evers, 63, 70, 73, 74, 76 Cicotte/Stahl (Black Sox), 78, 81, 83 Marquard/Meyers, 86, 88 Knight/Johnson, 89, 90 Kling/Young, 91, 92, 96, 97, 98, 99, 100, 104 Wolter/Chase, 105 Clarke/Miller, 107 Engle/Speaker, 109, 110 Evans/Huggins, 112, 113, 117, 121, and 132 Dahlen/Wheat. VG-EX+ 4.5 (8 cards): #5, 25 (Wolter/Chase, 52, 72 Lennox/Tiinker, 75, 93, 101 McBride/Griffith, and 131 Stovall/Austin - "Ty Cobb Steals Third". VG-EX 4 (22 cards): #3 O'Leary/Cobb, 6, 11, 13, 18, 21 Chase/Wolter, 32, 35, 39 Collins/Baker, 42, 43, 50, 56, 64 Tinker/Chance, 77, 84 McGraw/Jennings, 95, 102, 111, 114, 122, and 128. VG+ 3.5 (3 cards): #65 O'Leary/Cobb, 79 Bresnahan/McGraw, and 118. VG 3 (9 cards): #8 Collins/Baker, 9 Johnson/Street, 26 Chase/Wolter, 57, 62, 67, 68 Moriarty/Cobb, 103, and 116 Brown/Graham. GOOD+ 2.5 (1 card): #67 Wiltse/Meyers. The offered near-set is extremely attractive throughout, with some cards clearly presenting far better than their assigned grades, likely due to one of the minor flaws common to this issue. This is one of the finest near-complete sets of Triple Folders Robert Edward Auctions has ever had the privilege of offering. The total SMR value in the assigned grades (factoring the half-grades at the lower whole-grade value) is $29,295. Total: 117 cards. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000/$20,000+.
