Sample card from one of the rarest of all "E" card sets, catalogued E222, issued in 1910 by the A. W. H. Caramel Company, featuring players from the Virginia League. The fronts of these cards, which measure 1.5 x 2.75 inches, each have a player portrait that is tinted red, black, brown, or blue and white. Presented is a black-and-white E222 example of outfielder Guy Titman from the 1910 Richmond Colts of the Virginia League. For A. W. H. Caramel cards, this is a very attractive example. Encapsulated as Authentic by SGC for evidence of trimming (it should be noted that this card is cut similarly to many other E222s that we have seen and would more accurately be described as hand-cut). This example presents a crisp image, perfect centering, and light corner wear. Possible erased writing is faintly visible in the jersey area. The back is boldly printed and entirely clean. This is an extremely attractive, ideal sample card from one of the rarest of all 1910-era card sets. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++.
