Extremely unusual and quite possibly unique E93 printing variation card features Hall of Famer Ty Cobb in a catching pose. This is an especially fascinating card as Cobb is in the identical catching pose as found in E93 Standard Caramel, but is featured in a black-and-white rendition of this design and with a blank-back. E93s are usually seen in full-color with a checklist of the set on the reverse. This is the ONLY example of its kind that we have ever seen! This is a very interesting and very striking printing variation example of Ty Cobb, one of the key cards from the E93 set. Encapsulated by SGC as "Authentic" and labeled as “unaltered.” When this card was originally offered for the first time back in 2009, there was an in-depth discussion on the Net54 collector's message board as to why this card did not receive a numerical grade if it is unaltered. Apparently, at the time (and maybe still) it was SGC’s policy to not give unique variations like this card a numerical grade. Whatever the case may be, this is one of the most interesting and unusual Ty Cobb cards to surface in recent years! This card was offered at public auction in December 2009 and realized $7,875. It has been consigned directly by the purchaser from that auction. The card is bright and clean, both front and back, with a few surface abrasions, and evidence of album removal on the reverse. A worthy addition to any world-class Ty Cobb, Hall of Fame, or sample-card collection. Reserve $2,500. Estimate (open).
