Collection of four different cards from this rare nineteenth-century baseball-related nonsport tobacco-card set. Catalogued N154 and issued by Duke & Sons, the Presidential B.B. Club set is similar in dimensions (4.25 x 2.25 inches), design, and rarity to Kalamazoo Bats, but instead of ballplayers, they feature large ("Heads-Up" style) photographic portraits of the presidential and vice presidential candidates of 1888 comically superimposed on baseball-player bodies, posed in various baseball scenes with very elaborate studio stadium backdrops. Each card is graded and encapsulated by PSA. This collection consists of the following:
Grover Cleveland (catching, ball visible above hands, Authentic due to measuring slightly small, otherwise Vg-Ex), Grover Cleveland/Benjamin Harrison (Cleveland tagging sliding Harrison with large head, GOOD 2 [MK], ink on back), Grover Cleveland/Benjamin Harrison (Cleveland tagging sliding Harrison with small head, GOOD 2), and Levi Morton (catching, EX 5 [MK], strong photo contrast and image quality, qualified for pencil notations on back). For this rare set, four cards is an uncommonly large group. This is a superb group of four cards from this unusual and extremely scarce nineteenth-century issue. Total: 4 cards. Reserve $400. Estimate $1,000++.
