Rare publicity photo of The Beatles featuring Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and original drummer Pete Best, signed on the reverse by all four band members. Each has added a salutation and/or personalization in addition to his signature, with Harrison signing in blue ink and the other three band members in red ink. The inscriptions read as follows: "To Maurine love from George Harrison XXXXX," "To Maurine lots of love from John XXXXXX," Love to Maurine from Paul McCartney XXXXX," and "Love Pete Best." All of the signatures are boldly scripted and grade "9/10." Pete Best was the original drummer for The Beatles, a position he held for two years (August 12, 1960 to August 16, 1962) before being replaced by Ringo Starr. Because his tenure with the group was brief, and occurred before The Beatles became hugely successful, signed photos such as this are scarce. This is the first example we have ever offered and we cannot recall having seen more than just a few others at auction. The photo (8.5 x 6.25 inches) displays a number of light-to-moderate creases, as well as adhesive/tape residue, paper residue, and handwritten notations along the base of the front. In Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. (This photo originally came with a full LOA from Tracks LTD, but the original was misplaced. Instead, a photocopy of the original Tracks LTD LOA now accompanies the piece). Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open).
