Rare and ideal-for-display Coca-Cola advertising calendar issued in 1921. Like all early Coca-Cola advertising pieces, this calendar features a beautiful young woman enjoying a glass of Coca-Cola. However, what sets it apart from other Coca-Cola calendars (all of which are very desirable in the classic advertising collecting world) and makes this rarity of all the greater interest to baseball collectors is the game-in-progress baseball scene pictured in the background. This is one of the earliest Coca-Cola advertising pieces to feature a baseball theme and, to the best of our knowledge, the only Coca-Cola calendar ever issued featuring our national pastime. In 1891 Coca-Cola began the annual practice of issuing advertising calendars for display in consumer's homes (because they were functional, with a calendar attached, it insured that most would be displayed year round). Normally, one calendar was issued per year, but in some instances two variations would be printed (the pictured woman holding a glass of Coke in one, and a bottle in the other). The offered example was the only calendar issued by the company in 1921. (The exact same calendar was also issued in 1922). This is also the second-most valuable 1920s Coca-Cola calendar listed in Allan Petretti's definitive Coca-Cola reference work, Coca-Cola Collectibles
, suggesting this calendar has long been highly prized by Coca-Cola collectors. The calendar (12 x 30.25 inches) is complete with its original metal runner and hanging tab along the top. Only the calendar sheet for June remains. A few minor edge tears are evident, as is a slightly larger one-inch vertical tear (no paper loss) located in the main body of the piece, just above the calendar page. Technically in Very Good to Excellent condition overall, but closer to Ex-Mt in its overall appearance. This is an outstanding example of this classic advertisign calendar and one that would be a welcome addition to an advanced baseball or Coca-Cola collection. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 22 x 40.5 inches. The substantial size/weight of this item requires that there will be a shipping charge for this lot (which will vary depending upon where it is being shipped). The shipping charge will be billed separately from the auction invoice
. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
