Photo signed by Richard Nixon, 37th
President of the United States. The photo captures Nixon shaking hands with Washington Redskins assistant coach Charley Winner during Nixon’s visit to the team’s training facility in 1971. Signed and dated by Nixon in black felt-tip pen along the top border: “To Charley Winner/With best wishes for good luck against all teams except
the Redskins! Richard Nixon. 4/25/77.” Both the text and signature are boldly scripted and grade “10.” The photographer’ credit stamp, “Nate Fine Photo,” and the date, “Nov 23 1971” appear on the reverse. Winner was on the Redskins coaching in 1971 and 1972, but he was an assistant coach with the Cincinnati Bengals at the time Nixon presented him with this photo. The photo (10 x 8 inches) displays a very light paperclip impression in the upper left corner and tape residue on the reverse. In Excellent condition overall. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Pre certified by Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
