Black-and-white photographic print (not period) capturing Cassius Clay in the ring immediately after defeating Sonny Liston for the heavyweight championship in February 1964. Boldly signed "Cassius Clay" in black marker (grading "10") near the bottom border. All "Cassius Clay" signatures are both rare and highly desirable, as it was shortly after his defeat of Sonny Liston in 1964 that Clay changed his name to Muhammad Ali. After that time, Ali normally refused all "Cassius Clay" signature requests from fans. This signed photo, which was obtained by our consignor in person at a 1991 signing show, represents one of those rare exceptions. The photo (8 x 10 inches) remains in Excellent to Mint condition. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Pre certified by Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000.
