Rare, possibly unique, signed example of Jim Thorpe's 1933 Sport Kings card #6. Thorpe has both signed and dated the card, "Jim Thorpe/1944," in blue fountain pen (grading "6") across his image. Encapsulated by Beckett, with the signature certified as "Authentic." Thorpe's signature in any form is scarce, but even more so on trade cards. This is the ONLY signed example of this card we have ever seen, and it may be the lone survivor. Thorpe's 1933 Sport Kings card is one of the most popular and recognizable football cards from any era and is always one of the hobby's most highly sought-after and classic cards. A signed example is even more highly prized and represents one of, if not the rarest of all Jim Thorpe autographed items. The card is in overall Poor condition with a moderate diagonal crease in the upper right quadrant, significant paper loss on the reverse, and small areas of restoration along the top border. Despite the flaws, it presents at a higher level than suggested by its technically accurate grade and has an overall Vg appearance. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
