Cabinet card picturing fifteen members of the 1879 Yale football team posing together in a formal studio setting, including team captain Walter Camp (middle row, third from the right, holding the football). The photographer's credit, "G. W. Pach," appears on the reverse. Walter Camp, who is often referred to as the "Father of American Football," later enjoyed a long and successful coaching career, and was responsible for many of the early innovations in the game. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951. Research indicates that the players pictured here are as follows: Back Row (L to R): Harding, Lyman, Moorhead, and Knapp. Middle Row (L to R): Eaton, Watson, Badger, Camp, Clark, and Peters. Front Row (L to R): Nixon, Lamb, Beck, Hull, and Remington. The cabinet (6.5 x 4.25 inches) displays a tack hole along the top border of the photo, as well as minor edge and corner wear. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
