Titled The Slugger, issued in 1990, serigraph numbered "AP 3/50" (Artist's Proof), flawlessly signed in pencil in the lower margin by Mike Schmidt and LeRoy Neiman (both grading "10"). Edition limited in number to 356 total impressions (300 numbered impressions, 50 artist's proofs, and 6 printer's proofs). This modern classic, issued the year following Schmidt's retirement from the game in 1989, is widely recognized as the premier Schmidt signed display piece. Schmidt is considered by many to be the greatest third baseman in baseball history. In addition to his ten Gold Glove Awards, Schmidt also garnered three MVP Awards and is one of only twenty-seven players to hit 500 or more home runs. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1995 and was later named to baseball's prestigious All-Century Team in 1999. The serigraph measures 22 x 32 inches (image area) and displays very minor surface wear to the white border areas (easily matted out) and mounting-tape on the reverse from its having once been framed; otherwise in Near Mint to Mint condition. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Pre certified by Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication. The substantial size/weight of this item requires that there will be a shipping charge for this lot (which will vary depending upon where it is being shipped). The shipping charge will be billed separately from the auction invoice. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000.
