Original Ron Lewis oil on board painting of Reggie Jackson that was created to produce a series of lithographic prints issued in 1984. This painting represents the first artwork ever commissioned by Lewis specifically for a signing show event. The lithographs were originally produced for patrons to purchase at an autograph show that was headlined by Reggie Jackson. The lithographs were so well received that Lewis began devoting all of his time exclusively to sports themes, with signing shows representing the majority of his commissions. The image features a large portrait image of Jackson as a member of the New York Yankees, below which are three full-body vignettes of Jackson in a different batting pose. Each pose captures Jackson, respectively, as a member of either the Baltimore Orioles, California Angels, and Oakland A's. Signed and dated by the artist in the lower right corner ("Ron Lewis 84"). This painting originates directly from the personal collection of a former Ron Lewis business partner, who has consigned it directly to this auction. Ron Lewis is one of the premier sports artists of our time. In addition to his baseball pieces, Lewis has also created many other iconic works relating to the sports of football, basketball, and boxing. Today, he is best known by collectors for his famous 500 Home Run Club and 3,000 Hit Club artworks. The painting (18 x 24 inches) displays a number of light water spots along the left border and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. Matted to total dimensions of 20 x 26 inches. Together with four of the published lithographic prints (20 x 25 inches; Nr-Mt overall) produced from this artwork. Total: 5 items (painting and 4 prints). Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
