Rare 1959 Cuban International League program and “ticket” issued for a game between the Havana Sugar Kings and the Rochester Red Wings on July 24th. The cover, which was specially designed to commemorate Cuba’s “Dia De Reforma Agraria” on “24 De Julio” features a large illustrated portrait image of Cuban President Fidel Castro against a background image of a farmer driving a tractor in his fields. A full-page photo of Castro in a pitching pose is featured on the interior. The printed rosters for each team include Mike Cuellar, “Cookie” Rojas, Elio Chacon, and Jesse Gonder for Havana, and Luke Easter for Rochester. Not scored. The program (6.5 x 10 inches) displays a moderate vertical fold and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. Accompanied by what appears to be a special promotional die-cut “ticket” for the game picturing a farmer driving a tractor. (This is not an actual ticket to the game and may have been issued in conjunction with the program.) The printing on the front reads “Dia de la Reforma Agraria – 24 Julio – Stadium de la Habana. The printing on the reverse details the events (with translation in parenthesis): “8:00 P.M. Desafio de 5 innings entre dos equipos del Ejercito Rebelde (Challenge of 5 innings between two teams of the Rebel Army). 9:00 P. M. Entrega de Donaciones a la Reforma Agraria (Delivery of donations to the Agrarian Reform). 9:15 P.M. Juego entre Cubanos Reyes del Azúcar Y Alas Rojas del Rochester (Game between Cuban Sugar Kings and Rochester Red Wings).” 4.5 x 3.5 inches. Vg, with a number of creases. Total: 2 items (program and “ticket”/promotional piece).
