Single, original, seat from the Polo Grounds, one of the most famous sports stadiums in baseball history. The backrest features a silver number "4" stenciled on the top slat, while the middle slat bears a metal plaque reading "Polo Grounds/1891-1963." The Polo Grounds will always be revered as one of baseball's grandest old ballparks. The stadium was sacred as the home of the Giants from 1891 to 1957 and the New York Yankees from 1912 to 1922. The New York Mets brought baseball back to the Polo Grounds in 1962 and 1963, but it was torn down in 1964 to make room for housing projects, leaving only memories and a few seats as reminders of one of baseball's longest-lasting old-time ballparks. The seat appears to be completely original, with no evidence of restoration, and displays moderate-to-heavy wear, including chipping and/or peeling to the paint and oxidation to the exposed metal framework. 19 x 20 x 29 inches (with the seat unfolded). The substantial size/weight of this item requires that there will be a shipping charge for this lot (which will vary depending upon where it is being shipped). The shipping charge will be billed separately from the auction invoice
. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
