Original news photo capturing Babe Ruth signing his 1934 Yankees contract while team owner Jacob Ruppert looks on. A “Wide World” credit stamp appears on the reverse, as does the original paper news caption, dated “1/15/34.” While not known by either party at the time, this was Ruth’s final contract with the Yankees. According to the caption, Ruth’s salary of $35,000, while representing a steep cut from his previous year’s salary of $52,000, still made him he highest paid player in baseball. The photo (9 x 7 inches) displays a few very light surface wrinkles and is in Excellent condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+.
