Unusual photo of Babe Ruth being carried off the field by his teammates after sustaining an injury at Fenway Park on April 22, 1931. Certified as an original Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA. The nature of Ruth's injury is not apparent in this photo, but he appears to be unconscious, as it requires the trainer and three of his teammates to carry him off the field. (Period newspaper accounts report that Ruth injured his ankle.) The blue-ink notation "Babe Ruth Injured at Fenway Park April 1931" appears on the reverse. Although no photographer's credit is present, research indicates that the photo was taken by photographer Leslie Jones on April 22, 1931 (the original glass negative is housed in the Boston Public Library). The photo (9 x 7 inches) displays two small abrasions along the border areas, as well as a few light surface wrinkles. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
