Panoramic photo capturing the many baseball teams participating in "Amateur Day" at League Park in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 31, 1927. Front and center on the field, surrounded by a bevy of bathing beauties is Nick Altrock, who was one of baseball's most irrepressible comedic showmen. The vintage handwritten lettering along the base of the mount reads "Amateur Day - League Park - 1927/Nick Altrock (Center)." The caption on the photo itself reads "C. B. B. A./Dunn Field/July 31, 1927." The photographer's credit, "The Morchroe Co.," appears in the lower-right corner. The initials "C. B. B. A." most likely stand for "Cleveland Base Ball Association." League Park was renamed "Dunn Park" in 1916 by order of the new owner, "Sunny Jim" Dunn, but in 1927, after his widow sold the club, it reverted back to its former name. The Indians were on a road trip in New York on this date, freeing up the field for the approximately two-dozen teams that turned out for the event (including one African-American club). The photo (27.5 x 7 inches) is in apparent Excellent to Mint condition. Framed to total dimensions of 29.5 x 11.5 inches.
