Exceedingly rare Boston Red Sox pennant dating from the club's 1912 World Championship season. This is the first example of this iconic Red Sox pennant we have ever offered and we can recall having seen just two others at auction in the past fifteen years. The attractive design of this red-felt pennant features a generic Red Sox player in a pitching pose to the left, below which is lettered "1912 Champions." The team name, "Red Sox," is printed to the right. The manufacturer's tag ("Henry Schwartz/Badges Souvenirs, College and Fraternal Pennants/15 Ann Street, New York") appears on the reverse. The pennant (24.75 inches), which is complete with its original tassels, displays moderate wear, including tack holes, a slightly larger circular hole near the top left border, moderate soiling, and crazing to the painted letters and image. In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
