This classic 1885 chromolithographic children's book is illustrated with extraordinary full-color vignettes of children engaged in baseball games. Published by the famous McLoughlin Brothers in 1885, the book was intended for use by young children as an alphabet primer. Collectors have always prized this rare book for its tremendous graphics and display value. A higher-grade example of this book was featured in the 1999 Barry Halper auction, where it realized a final sales price of $3,737. This is a scarce book in any condition and only the third we have ever handled. The book (8.25 x 10.5 inches) displays heavy wear to the covers, including numerous tears (areas of paper loss) and creasing. Both covers have separated from the spine and are now held together by clear tape. Most of the pages displays small edge tears and minor border creases, as well as light foxing. In Fair to Good condition overall, but complete as issued. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
