Four-page fold-over contract, dated January 5, 1956, between Gil Hodges and the Brooklyn National Baseball Club, Inc., signed in black ink by "Gilbert Ray Hodges" (grading "10") and in blue ink by club president "E. J. Bavasi" ("10"). The one-year agreement, for the 1956 season, calls for Hodges to receive an annual salary of $37,000. Hodges batted .265 with 32 home runs and 87 RBI in 1956 to help lead the Dodgers to their second consecutive pennant. One of the most popular players in Dodgers history, Hodges finished his career with 370 home runs, 1,274 RBI, and a .273 lifetime batting average, numbers which continue to earn him support for future election to the Baseball Hall of Fame. This is the first Gil Hodges Brooklyn Dodgers contract we have ever offered and we cannot recall having seen more than a few others at auction. The contract (8.5 x 11 inches) remains in Excellent to Mint condition. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Pre certified by Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication. Reserve $500.
