Classic 1961 New York Yankees baseball poster, created by noted sports artist Ron Lewis, originating from the 1961 New York Yankees reunion show held at Trump Castle in Atlantic City on May 11-13, 1990. This poster was specially produced exclusively for the show and, as intended, many of the guests took the time to get them signed by as many players as possible. This particular example has been signed by the following thirty-two team members: Mantle, Berra, Ford, Arroyo, Blanchard, Boyer, Cerv, Clevenger, Coates, Daley, DeMaestri, Ditmar, Downing, Duren, Gardner, Gonder, Hale, Houk (Mgr.), James, Lopez, McDevitt, Reed, Reniff, Richardson, Sain (coach), Sheldon, Skowron, Stafford, Terry, Torgeson, Turley, and Tresh. All of the signatures have been scripted in blue Sharpie atop the player's respective image and grade a perfect "10." The poster has also been signed in blue Sharpie (grading "10") in the lower right corner by Ron Lewis and Hank Bauer (Bauer was a longtime Yankee, but he was not on the 1961 club and is therefore not pictured). This 1961 Yankees signed poster is extraordinary, both in terms of size and visual appeal. Missing only the following nine signatures (four of whom died prior to the show and were impossible to obtain; three others have died since the show): Tony Kubek, Deron Johnson (died 1992), Lee Thomas, Roger Maris (died 1985), Elston Howard (died 1980), Duke Maas (died 1976), coach Jim Hegan (1984), coach Frank Crosetti (died 2002), and coach Wally Moses (died 1990). Along with Ron Lewis' 500 Home Run Club artworks, this lithograph is among his best-known works. The poster (37.25 x 24 inches) has been affixed to a larger foam-core board (40 x 30 inches) and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Pre certified by Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication. The substantial size/weight of this item requires that there will be a shipping charge for this lot (which will vary depending upon where it is being shipped). The shipping charge will be billed separately from the auction invoice. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
