Official American League (Harridge) ball signed in blue or black ink by the following 29 members of the 1955 American League Champion New York Yankees: Mantle, Berra, Rizzuto, Ford, Slaughter, McDougald, Morgan, Carey, Larsen, Konstanty, Bauer, Wiesler, Crosetti (coach), Silvera, Carroll, Schallock, Byrne, Turley, Robinson, Lopat, Kucks, Cerv, Grim, Noren, Sain, Collins, Skowron, Howard, and Hunter. The Stengel signature has been deemed a clubhouse example by JSA and Beckett Authentication. A vintage black-ink inscription printed on the sweet spot reads "To Jim Deren/from New York Yankees." Above the inscription, printed in blue ink, is "Anglers Roost." Jim Deren, known as a first-class angler, raconteur and salesman, owned a New York establishment called "Angler's Roost," from which he sold fishing gear. The cramped store, which was originally in the Chrysler Building before moving near Grand Central Station, was a city institution for decades. Many of the Yankees during that era were avid sportsmen and most were probably friends with, or were at least acquainted with, Deren. This ball was obviously a token of friendship from the team in 1955. The signatures range from "5" to "10," averaging "8/9." The ball has been coated with a thin, clear layer of protective shellac and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. This is an outstanding high-grade 1955 Yankees ball dating from the middle of the team's greatest decade. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Pre certified by Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+.
