Wilson "Official League" ball signed in blue fountain pen by the following 14 former New York Yankees players: Earl Combs, Red Ruffing, Bob Shawkey, Fred Hofmann, Buddy Hassett, Bud Metheny, Wally Schang, Roger Peckinpaugh, Joe Dugan, Walter Brown, Wally Pipp, Marius Russo, Whitey Witt, and Benny Bengough. A number of the signatures display minor bleeding and/or brushing, but otherwise all are fairly uniform, grading "7/8" on average. Although Combs and Ruffing are the only Hall of Fame players represented here, this is an illustrious group of New York Yankees. Seven of the players here were members of the Yankees' first World Championship club in 1923 (Schang, Pipp, Dugan, Witt, Hofmann, Bengough, and Shawkey), while four were members of the legendary 1927 club (Dugan, Bengough, Shawkey, and Combs). In addition to being members of both of those World Championship clubs, Bob Shawkey was also the winning pitcher in the first game played at Yankee Stadium in 1923. Nine years earlier, in 1914, Roger Peckinpaugh, at the age of 23, became the youngest major league manager in history after assuming control of the Yankees for the final three weeks of the season. The ball has been coated with a layer of protective shellac and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Pre certified by Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+.
