Babe Ruth personal check, dated November 15, 1941, made out to his wife, "Claire Ruth," in the amount of $50.00. Signed "G. H. Ruth" in black fountain pen along the base. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, with the Ruth signature graded MINT 9. The check, which is drawn on the Chemical Bank & Trust Company of New York, features Ruth's preprinted name along the left border. Endorsed by "Claire Ruth" in black fountain pen ("8/9") on the reverse. Babe Ruth personal checks have long been a favorite of autograph collectors due to their inherent authenticity and the fact that Ruth’s signature is always well executed. The offered check is particularly desirable due to the fact that it is made out entirely in Ruth’s hand and is payable to his wife, Claire Ruth. Thus, the check features two “Ruth” signatures. The check (8.25 x 3 inches) displays normal bank cancellation stamps and holes, as well as a moderate vertical fold ( none of which affect Ruth’s main signature). In Excellent condition overall. Full LOA from Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication and auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500++.
