Extraordinary collection of 121 autographed cards, representing 117 different cards, from the 1933 R319 Goudey set. To the best of our knowledge, this is the largest single offering of autographed 1933 Goudeys cards ever presented at auction and one that represents almost exactly half the complete set (240 cards). It should also be noted that many of the smaller Hall of Fame autographed Goudey card lots featured in this auction originate from this remarkable collection. All of the cards have been signed on the front, with the exception of #27 Connally. Billy Herman is the only Hall of Famer included here, but the collection features numerous star players. Forty-two of the cards have been encapsulated by PSA/DNA, with all of the signatures certified as "Authentic" (six of the signatures have also been graded by the company; grades are duly noted in our listing). Four of the cards (#11, 130, 231, and 239) are duplicates. Signatures, penned in a variety of inks (the majority in vintage fountain pen), range from "5" to "10," averaging "8," with the exception of #40 Douthit ("2"), #67 Bush ("3"), and #157 Byrd ("3/4"). Condition ranges in grade from Pr (including a few trimmed examples) to Vg, averaging Fr-Gd.

The collection is composed of the following: Encapsulated cards (42): #4, 6, 9, 11, 15, 33, 36 Thevenow (signature graded NM 7), 37, 45, 50, 51 Grimm, 55 Malone (signature graded MINT 9), 78, 86, 93, 94 B. This is an incredible partial set, entirely autographed, that is the result of many years of dedication by a passionate collector. The partial set is highlighted by several impressive rarities, including some signers who passed away before collecting signed cards was truly the popular pastime that it is today. An astounding collection of signed Goudeys, one of the most popular sets of all-time, that would serve as a formidable foundation for the assembly of a completely signed set. Total: 121 cards. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Pre certified by Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication. Reserve $2,500. Estimate (open).
