Presented is the actual original camera-ready production art from the 1969 Topps Poster series used to produce the New York Yankees (with Mickey Mantle) and Cincinnati Reds (with Pete Rose) team posters in the set. While photographs of the players are used (as opposed to artwork), this is the equivalent of the art for these posters, and this is the actual production board used by the Topps art department in 1969 to finalize designs for the poster series produced by the company. The art production boards, which each measure approximately 12-1/2 x 21 inches, consists of two pieces: 1) a thin wax-paper overlay on which Topps artists have added color and placement outlines; and 2) a thin artist's board on which camera-ready paste-ups of all poster text have been prepared. Production notations are visible in the margins. Overall Excellent to Near Mint condition. These artworks were purchased at the famous 1989 Topps/Guernsey's auction. They have not seen the light of day since 1989 and have been consigned to this auction directly from the original purchaser! These are the very first examples we have ever offered, and they are extremely impressive Topps card related items! These are outstanding and extraordinarily unique pieces which offer great insight into the production process for Topps posters and would be a significant addition to any original card-artwork or card-production collection. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
