Original 1969 Topps uncut proof sheet features forty-four fifth series cards highlighted by #500 Mickey Mantle, the key card from this classic 1960s Topps issue. This sheet also includes Rod Carew, Joe Torre, and Gaylord Perry. 1969 Topps proof sheets are easily distinguished from production sheets by their blank-backs and the fact they have only forty-four cards per sheet (as opposed to 132 cards for production sheets), with large margin areas and color proofing bars. This is a particularly attractive 1960s Topps proof sheet, and one of the few featuring Mantle. The sheet is a final process proof sheet with printer notations on all but one card (the Mantle card has far less notations with just a single letter “R” on his jersey sleeve). The purpose of the notations was for the printer to make final color corrections prior to authorizing production quantities. This is a true proof sheet with working notations and color bars. This sheet was really worked on. Folded in half, probably at Topps for easy carrying from one station to the next. This is the only example we have ever seen, and it may very well be unique. Because of the fold and extensive printer's notations, it is difficult to grade, but the sheet displays very well and the condition flaws relate directly to its intended use. The sheet is bright and crisp, with magnificent colors, several creases, and a few edge tears. Miraculously, in comparison to the other cards, the Mantle card is one of the cleanest cards on the sheet and is barely affected by any of the condition flaws associated with this sheet and has tremendous visual appeal. This sheet would make an outstanding companion piece to any 1969 Topps set or serve as an extraordinary addition to any uncut sheet or Mickey Mantle collection. Dimensions: 34.75 x 18.75 inches. The substantial size/weight of this item requires that there will be a shipping charge for this lot (which will vary depending upon where it is being shipped). The shipping charge will be billed separately from the auction invoice. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
