Grades 46% Nr/Mt or better and 54% Ex to Ex-Mt (including ten slightly lesser, twenty-one with a slight trim, a few that measure small, and one with color added). Some of the cards have far better appeal than suggested by their technically accurate assigned grades, but have been downgraded slightly due to light surface impressions from corner mounts. The 1962 Topps set has a well-deserved reputation for being the era's most condition-sensitive issue. The flush-to-the-border wood-grain design of 1962 Topps makes cards from this set particularly susceptible to wear. This particular set also includes eight variations (two variations for #139 and both variations for #129, 134, 147, 174, 176, and 190), plus fifty-seven of the seventy-seven green tint photo variations from the second series (#110-196), for a total of 663 cards. Eleven cards have been graded and encapsulated by PSA (except for one BVG as noted). Keys:
#1 Maris (Ex+), 5 Koufax (measures small, 20/80 L/R, otherwise Ex+), 10 Clemente (slight trim, otherwise Ex-Mt+), 18 Mantle/Mays (Ex), 25 Banks (Nr/Mt+), 30 Mathews (Nr/Mt), 45 Robinson (Ex+), 50 Musial (NM-MT 8), 53 Maris/Mantle LL (30/70 L/R, otherwise Nr/Mt), 70 Killebrew (NM 7), 100 Spahn (Ex-Mt), 139b Reniff (possible slight trim, otherwise Vg-Ex+), 139c Babe Hits 60 (measures small, otherwise Ex), 139d Babe Hits 60 (20/80 T/B, otherwise Nr/Mt), 140 Ruth/Gehrig (Ex-Mt+), 150 Kaline (green tint, slight trim, otherwise Nr/Mt), 150 Kaline (25/75 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), 199 Perry RC (slight trim, otherwise Nr/Mt), 200 Mantle (slight trim, two tiny spots of paper loss on front, otherwise Nr/Mt), 206 Senators (MINT 9), 218 Torre (Ex+), 234 W.S. Game 3 - Maris (NM 7), 300 Mays (Nr/Mt+), 310 Ford (Ex-Mt), 313 Maris IA (slight trim, otherwise Ex-Mt), 318 Mantle IA (slight trim, otherwise Ex-Mt), 320 Aaron (slight trim, otherwise Nr/Mt), 340 Drysdale (Nr/Mt), 350 F. Robinson (EX+ 5.5), 360 Berra (Ex), 387 Brock RC (Ex), 394 Aaron AS (slight trim, otherwise Nr/Mt), 395 Mays AS (measures small, otherwise Nr/Mt-Mt), 401 Maris/Cepeda (NM-MT 8), 425 Yastrzemski (BVG NM 7), 461 Hubbs RC (slight trim, otherwise Nr/Mt-Mt), 471 Mantle AS (slight trim, otherwise Nr/Mt+), 500 Snider (Vg-Ex), 530 Gibson SP (NM 7), 544 McCovey SP (NM 7), 545 Wilhelm SP (Ex+), 575 Schoendienst SP (Ex-Mt), 592 Bouton (EX-MT+ 6.5), 594 Uecker (NM 7), 596 Pepitone (slight trim, otherwise Ex-Mt), and 598 Hickman (slight trim, otherwise Nr/Mt). This is an extremely impressive 1962 Topps set, far superior to the average set of this very condition-sensitive issue. The SMR value for just the eleven graded cards (not including the additional 652 cards in the set!) is $1,205. Total: 663 cards (set of 598 plus 65 variations). Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+.
